I recently received statements in the mail from two companies. Domain Registration Of America and DNS Services are sending out what appear to be hard-copy invoices. Buried in the text is a disclaimer that is is a solicitation and not actually a bill of invoice. The invoice gives the impression that your domain name is up for renewal and about to expire. These scams are aimed at consumers who do not realize that by returning the invoices along with a payment, their domain names are in fact transferring from their current domain registrar to DROA. What makes these scams appear genuine is that it contains information extracted from DNS records, including your company’s domain and the ISP records.
If you receive one of these letters, ignore them! Do NOT complete the payment slip at the bottom or make any payments to these companies.
